Construction progress for a refurbishment and extension which avoids conventional steelwork in favour of engineered timber beams and columns. We're using a simple palette of robust and low-embodied carbon materials including wood fibre insulation and lime plaster. The new glulam structure is exposed internally to define the spaces for working, cooking and eating, and a large sliding door and picture window will create a light and outward-looking room with a stronger connection to the garden.
We've started work on an ambitious retrofit of a Grade II listed Regency property in the city of Westminster.
Looking forward to teaching on the new Design Tripos (MDes) which combines architecture, structural engineering, and material science. This exciting new course is designed to address the particular technical challenges set out in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The Design Degree specifically distinguishes itself from the Architecture Degree in placing greater emphasis on mathematical and scientific literacy, without diminishing the fact that people are at the heart of design in the built environment. The brief for the first term will be a new library for Queens' College!
